Care

Take care of your clothes, and they’ll care care of you.

Some simple Do’s & Don’ts that will help prolong the life and appearance of your clothing.

Don’t overdo dry cleaning. Clean periodically and when stained. If your garments are wrinkled have them professionally pressed. You can have your garments (clean garments) PRESSED ONLY a number of times between cleanings.

Do Give wool clothing a few days of rest (at least 24hrs.) between wearings. Wool fibers will relax, shed wrinkles and return to their original shape. Empty pockets, remove belts, suspenders etc., and use a wooden hanger to store your suit after wear. This will support your garment and help retain its shape.

Don’t store your woolens, linen, silk, cotton or any natural fabric in a dry cleaner plastic bag, or plastic garment bag. These fibers actually breathe and need circulating air to prevent deterioration. We recommend shoulder guards. These keep dust off your collar and shoulders and allow your garments to breathe.

Do allow breathing space between clothing when hanging in your closet. Don’t pack tightly together

Do remember to remove your collar stays and unbutton all your buttons before you drop off your shirts at the dry cleaners.

Do remember to tell the dry cleaner to PRE-TREAT your collar and cuffs and any stains prior to laundering your shirts. This will help remove as much of the grime/stain as possible (aka ring around the collar). If not, the hot pressing may make it permanent.

Don’t use chlorine bleaches on your cotton shirts. They are caustic and will deteriorate the fabric. They don’t remove stains, they just lighten them.

Do remember to use light starch, or better yet NO starch on your shirts. Starch over time will not only shorten the life of a shirt, but also its appearance and feel of the shirt.
